How it works
X% of Y is Y × X ÷ 100. 'A is what % of B' is A ÷ B × 100. Percentage change is (new − old) ÷ |old| × 100, so a positive result is an increase and a negative one a decrease.
Example
20% of 150 is 30. 30 is 20% of 150. Going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. For example, 15% of 200 = 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30.
Is percentage change the same as percentage points?
No. Going from 10% to 12% is a change of 2 percentage points, but a 20% relative increase.
Can I use negative numbers?
Yes. All three calculations accept negative and decimal values.
